Our Story

The Fork Tail started as a hobby that grew into a passion. Based in Lompoc, CA, we specialize in the breeding and care of Blue Eye Furcatas — one of the most stunning and underappreciated freshwater fish in the hobby. What began as a single tank has grown into a dedicated operation focused on producing healthy, vibrant fish raised in optimal conditions.

We believe that healthy fish start with healthy water. Every tank in our setup is carefully maintained with pristine parameters, quality food, and plenty of space — because we care about the animals we raise, not just the sale.

What We Specialize In

Our flagship fish is the Blue Eye Furcata (Pseudomugil furcatus), a small but breathtaking rainbowfish native to Papua New Guinea. Known for their electric blue eyes, golden bodies, and flowing forked tails, they are a centerpiece species that works beautifully in planted tanks and community setups.

We also occasionally have other freshwater species available — check the shop for current stock, which is updated in real time.

How We Operate

Online Orders

Browse our shop and place your order online. Fish are carefully packed and shipped at a flat rate of $15.00. We ship within the continental United States and take great care to ensure every fish arrives healthy and stress-free.

Local Pickup — By Appointment Only

Local customers are welcome to pick up their fish directly. Pickup is by appointment only — please place your order online first and then reach out to schedule a time. This ensures your fish are ready and waiting when you arrive.
